Only a small handful of artists truly stand out in today’s art world. Canadian artist, Zinour, is one of these select fine artists. The Kingston Prize competition recently named Zinour one of the top thirty best fine artists in Calgary, B. C. One of the most fascinating things about Zinour’s work is that he working in a variety of mediums from pastels to wood-carvings. This variety is rarely seen with regard to a single artist. Zinour is as good a sculptor as he is a portrait artist. Zinour has featured animals in many of his pieces and there is often a historic feel to his work – as though some important part of history has just been documented.

Zinour has also done pieces that praise the accomplishments of those he admires. For example, the painting, Christos Hatzis: Juno award-winning, Canadian composer; professor of composition at the University of Toronto is an excellent example of an individual admired by the author for his own contributions to art. This masterpiece portrait captures the composer in a natural way. It is amazing.

Sadly, not many people around the world know about the artistic contributions being made by Canadian artists today. The most amazingly beautiful portraits I have seen in my life were created by Canadian artists. I will never forget these awe inspiring works of art.

What Makes a Bowie Knife?

A Bowie knife is a specific thing, even though the term is loosely applied to most any large hunting knife. A Bowie knife has distinguishing features that make it very specialized in certain ways and very versatile in others. The principal difference between a Bowie and most hunting knives is that a Bowie was designed to be a dual-purpose device in a specific regard: It was designed both for utility and as an implement of self-defense. The design carries the name of its original carrier, Jim Bowie, a legendary frontiersman and one of the fighters at the Alamo.

Bowie knives always have clipped points. This feature is the end part of the blade where the center of the blade dips below the spine. Though this feature is attractive, it offers far more than looks. In a fight, this narrow portion of the blade is lethal in its ability to penetrate deep into the body with little effort. This creates what is called a false edge along the back of the blade. Some users sharpen this edge. Outside of fighting, however, this modification has little practical usage and may make the knife more dangerous to the user.

The blade on a Bowie knife is usually at least 1 inch wide, often wider. This thickness offers the blade incredible durability. The knife can safely be used for all manner of tough work, from chopping small wood in a pinch to blocking powerful blows in the course of a fight. The weight of this blade is offset by another important characteristic of these knives: the clipped point.

Bowie knives are always single-edged knives. The back of the blade is sometimes altered to provide more utility. On some knives, there are saw portions or a sharpened section along the false edge of the blade clip. These are user customizations, however, and this knife is always a single edged weapon when manufactured to traditional standards. While double-bladed knives may be a bit more deadly, they are very impractical for any kind of work and oftentimes endanger their user when pressed into service for such mundane tasks as cleaning game.

Bowie knives are useful tools but, in many jurisdictions, they are illegal to carry. These knives, after all, are weapons and are designed to be lethal. Before heading out of the house with one’s Bowie strapped to one’s leg, check local laws to make sure carrying such a fearsome knife is legal.

G.I Joe: The Rise of Cobra – The Most Awaited Movie of The Year.

Were you anticipating yet another G.I JOE movie with all the action & the adventure? Have you been a G.I JOE fan all along?

You will be happy to know that the most anticipated film of the year is back with a bang. Directed by Stephen Sommers (The Mummy, Van Helsing), G.I. JOE: The Rise of Cobra stars a hot young cast including Channing Tatum (Public Enemies), Sienna Miller (Factory Girl), Marlon Wayans (Dance Flick), Rachel Nichols (“Alias”) , Joseph Gordon-Levitt ((500) Days of Summer), and Ray Park (X-Men), as well as veteran actors Christopher Eccleston (Gone in Sixty Seconds) and Dennis Quaid (Vantage Point).

G.I Joe: The Rise of Cobra is a 2009 American live-action film adaptation of the G.I. Joe toy franchise, the story follows two American soldiers, Duke and Ripcord, who join the G.I. Joe Team after being attacked by MARS troops. Filming took place in Downey, California and Prague’s Barrandov Studios, and six different companies handled the visual effects.

The plot of the movie starts with the Scotsman Klan McCullen being accused of selling weaponry to both the Scots and French. Rather than being executed for treason, the jury brands his face with a white-hot mask in order to humiliate him. In the near future, weapons expert James McCullen (Christopher Eccleston) creates a nanotechnology-based weapon capable of destroying an entire city. His company MARS sells four warheads to NATO, and the U.S. Army is tasked with delivering the warheads. Duke (Channing Tatum) and Ripcord (Marlon Wayans) are delivering the warheads when they are ambushed by the Baroness (Sienna Miller), who Duke recognized to be his ex-fiance Ana Lewis. Duke and Ripcord are rescued by Scarlett (Rachel Nichols), Snake Eyes (Ray Park) and Heavy Duty (Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje). The warheads are taken to The Pit, G.I. Joe’s command center in North Africa, and upon arriving rendezvous with General Hawk (Dennis Quaid), the head of the G.I. Joe Team. Hawk takes command of the war-heads and excuses Duke and Ripcord, only to be convinced to have them join his group after Duke reveals that he knows the Baroness.

In a high stakes pursuit of COBRA, an evil international organization threatening to use a technology that could bring the world to its knees, the G.I. Joe team travels the world from the Egyptian desert to the polar ice caps and the streets of Paris armed with the coolest hi-tech gadgets and weapons, including camouflage suits and jaw-dropping accelerator, G.I. JOE is the last line of defense against those intent on world domination.

The filming of this movie began on February 11, 2008, in Los Angeles, California. The Downey sound-stage was chosen as Paramount needed a large stage to get production underway as soon as possible. The first two levels of the Pit were built there, to complement the rest of the building which would be done with special effects. Downey also housed Destro’s MARS base in the Arctic, his legitimate weapons factory in an ex-Soviet state, as well as various submarines interiors, including a SHARC (Submersible High-speed Attack and Reconnaissance Craft) manned by two G.I. Joes.

The Rise of Cobra was worked upon by six different visual effects companies, the most prominent being Digital Domain, which handled the Paris action, sequences and the opening convoy sequence. A special code was written for depicting how the crumbling metal works for the Eiffel Tower destruction. To create the digital Eiffel Tower, the technicians had access to the original building plans, and built a digital model so complex that could not fit in a single file.
